Longtime Suffolk Treasurer Ronald Williams kept his seat during Tuesday’s elections, trouncing challenger David Boyd by a margin of more than three to one.

With most ballots counted, Williams had accumulated 26,445 votes to Boyd’s 7,411, winning more than 70% of the vote in all but the Huntersville precinct, where he won 69.8%.

About 12,000 early ballots were cast across the city.

Williams won nearly 80% of the absentee vote and close to 78% of the early vote.

Williams said he would continue to prioritize collecting, investing and managing taxpayers’ money “in the most effective and efficient possible manner,” while looking to move more services online and working with people “to keep them in their homes, cars and businesses while bringing any past due accounts current.”

He said it will be important for the treasurer’s office to stay up-to-date on opportunities and offerings in technology and continue to work with people and businesses who, “through no fault of their own,” are in difficult financial situations due to COVID-19

All results are unofficial until they are certified, which will happen Nov. 15. Absentee ballots were accepted until noon Nov. 5, making results incomplete.
