Suffolk Public Library has curated an out-of-this-world lineup of programs and events to celebrate the end of the summer programming. Co(s)mic Summer begins on Aug. 9 and is a mix of live, in-person, and pre-recorded events that will lead up to Free Comic Book Day on Aug. 14.

“All of the events will be comic book-themed,” said Cory Bland, community learning coordinator. “There will be special programs such as a gravity bowl experiment conducted by the NASA SK8 Dames and a live conversation with local indie wrestlers about comics! There will be a panel discussion on the topic of LGBTQ representation in comics and young adult fiction. We will also be joined live by a local history professor who will teach us about the history of Captain America in celebration of his 80th anniversary.”

The library will have in-person events such as “Chalk It Up” where community members are encouraged to create fun art in the North Suffolk Library parking lot.  A comic book-themed Mystery Box program will run from July 26 to Aug. 14, so kits will be available for pick up before the Co(s)mic Summer kickoff. All of these exciting events lead up to the grand finale which is the Free Comic Book Day giveaway at 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 14 (while supplies last) at both Morgan Memorial and North Suffolk library locations featuring the 501st Legion, cosplay, and a photo booth.
