Suffolk Police have made an arrest following their investigation of a golf cart accident that occurred earlier this spring.
Darrell Stapp Griffin, age 38, of Suffolk, was arrested on June 8, 2021, on charges including cruelty and injuries to children; non-use of a seatbelt by a child 9 to 18 years; reckless driving; and non-use of a seatbelt by a child under 8 years.
Emergency Communications was contacted on April 16, 2021 at approximately 5:11 p.m. advising of an injured child in the 1200 block of Parker Drive in the Willowbrook neighborhood.
Upon arrival, officers observed an injured male juvenile receiving emergency medical assessment and treatment by Suffolk Fire & Rescue personnel. The child was ground transported to Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters for further treatment of serious injuries.
Their preliminary investigation revealed that two juvenile family members were riding unsecured in the golf cart with Mr. Griffin when a juvenile fell from the cart onto the roadway and was subsequently run over by the golf cart.
