Suffolk Foundation awards $40,500 in scholarships

The Suffolk Foundation recently announced its 2021 academic scholarship awards. This year, the Foundation awarded $40,500 to 14 recipients.
Since the Foundation received its 501(c)(3) nonprofit community foundation status in October 2007, it has awarded more than $5,740,000 in unrestricted and donor-advised grants and scholarships. The Foundation scholarships support students continuing their education at colleges, universities or in trade schools and career certification programs. The scholarship funds are disbursed directly to the recipients’ college, university or trade school. The 2021 Suffolk Foundation Scholarships and Recipients were:
- Allfirst Memorial Scholarship ($1,000 each) — Rachel Iman (Longwood University); Emma McIntyre (Grassfield High School, Christopher Newport University)
- James M. Blair Memorial Scholarship ($5,000) — Chaitanya Barot (Nansemond-Suffolk Academy, University of Virginia)
- Ossie S. & Thomas F. Blair Jr. Memorial Scholarship ($5,000 each) — Christiana Green (Lakeland High School, Old Dominion University); Chaitanya Barot (Nansemond-Suffolk Academy, University of Virginia)
- Audrey B. Butler Memorial Scholarship ($1,000) — Madison Lilly (Southampton High School, Virginia Commonwealth University)
- Col. Fred V. Cherry Scholarship ($3,000) — Christiana Green (Lakeland High School, Old Dominion University) DiStasio Health Professions Scholarship ($2,000) — Alyssa Megginson (Windsor High School, Radford University)
- Howard D. Mast Memorial Scholarship ($5,000 each) — Chaitanya Barot (Nansemond-Suffolk Academy, University of Virginia); MaryDouglas Johnson (Suffolk Christian Academy, Virginia Tech)
- Lewis F. Morris Memorial Scholarship ($1,500) — Mariyah Walters (King’s Fork High School, North Carolina A&T University)
- Amy Phelps Art Scholarship ($2,000) — Jenna Spain (Isle of Wight Academy, college TBD)
- Otha S. Rountree Memorial Scholarship for Nursing Education ($1,500) — Ashlyn Pippin (Paul D. Camp Community College)
- Suffolk Business Women’s Scholarship ($2,500) — Kayleigh McNelis (Isle of Wight Academy, James Madison University)
