It’s true — superheroes do walk among us. Each of them bears a “superpower” that makes a real difference in our lives. You may not easily spot these superheroes as most of them look like your neighbor, passerby, friend or family member. It was a great pleasure and real honor to be able to share a few of our area superheroes with you in our special section titled Superheroes of Western Tidewater in Wednesday’s edition.

Within the special section you will find superheroes with superpowers that vary from keeping your heart in time, to helping citizens get where they need to go, to making sure fur babies are well taken care of and more.

On Page 12 of the special section, meet Dr. Ryan Seutter, a cardiologist with Bon Secours Cardiovascular Specialist at Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center. A humble soul, Dr. Seutter doesn’t consider himself a superhero, but we think different, and we are sure you will too.

Superhero Leroy Davis lends a helping hand with a smile, making sure those that need to get to doctor appointments, the grocery store or even work get there safely. Turn to page 13 for more of the story.

Dr. Amy Bowman and the staff members of The Oaks Veterinary Clinic are dedicated to caring for your fur babies. Wind, snow, rain and COVID-19 proved no match for these superheroes. Donning masks, limiting exposure and offering curbside visits has allowed the clinic to remain open and ready to serve. For more on this story, turn to page 6 of the special issue.
