After reading the article, “Foodbank breaks ground on new branch, hub” in the Suffolk News-Herald (April 18) by Titus Mohler, kudos, congratulations and applause to the Western Tidewater Branch and Community Produce Hub in Franklin.

I am one of many volunteers who participate in the East End Baptist Church Benevolence Ministry. We along with other community activists have been serving the Suffolk community by distributing food for many years.

This letter is by no means written to disparage the plans, work or vision of those who were the boots on the ground for this Hub to come to fruition. This letter is to acknowledge our leader, Yvonne Green, as she and a fellow volunteer, Donny Whitehead, worked tirelessly to feed the people of Franklin when we had food to spare, and some people in Franklin desperately needed food. Perhaps on the day she made the decision to share our distribution with the people in Franklin, a seed was planted. A little seed and faith go a long way. Little did our ministry know that the city of Franklin would become the permanent home and the hub for the Food Bank.

In the words of the Rev. Mark A. Croston, former pastor of East End Baptist, who said, “We are glad about it,” and our current pastor, the Rev. Wayne Faison, who always says, “Won’t He do it.”

The East End Baptist Church Benevolence Ministry will continue to support you in any way in your endeavors.
