Five displaced in fire

Suffolk Fire & Rescue units responded early Sunday to a residential structure fire at the Hoffler Apartments complex.

Emergency Communications was contacted at 2:38 a.m., and the first unit arrived on scene in the 2200 block of East Washington Street at 2:45 a.m., according to a city press release.

The fire was quickly knocked down and it was determined that it had started in the bathroom ceiling fan and extended into the attic. There were no injuries. The fire was called under control at 2:53 a.m., the press release stated.

One adult and four juveniles have been displaced and will be staying with family members.

Responding units included Engines 1, 2, 3, and 4; Ladders 3 and 5; EMS1, Rescue 1 and 6; Medic 1; Battalion 1; and Safety 1.
