The Friends of the Suffolk Library plans to reopen on March 30 now that COVID-19 case numbers are lower.

The used bookstore decided to temporarily close its doors in January due to the spike in COVID-19 cases and the desire to protect volunteers and customers. The volunteers hoped they would soon reopen once conditions were safer to provide the community again with inexpensive, used books.

“Our primary volunteers have been vaccinated, but I know a great many of our customers have not, and our concern is for their safety,” said Bob Cox, also known as “Book Sale Bob.”

Cox encourages folks to come in during the weekdays so that Saturdays are not too overcrowded in the store. Even though Suffolk’s COVID-19 infection rate is significantly lower than the numbers seen in January, folks are encouraged to be mindful as they plan their visit to the store to get something new to read.

“We’re anxious to welcome all our friends back to the store, and we have lots of new books for them,” said Cox.

The store will be open again Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with masks and social distancing measures in place.
