Thanks for lights, and asking for sidewalks

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

To the editor:

I would like to say thank you for the lights at Sleepy Hole Park for the Christmas holiday. This was a nice event for families during this time of COVID. It will be an event that families can look forward to in the years to come with new additions of lights. The lights were a free event that helped families to go as much as they wanted during the month of December. Other events in Hampton Roads cost money.

I would like to see sidewalks put in on Shoulders Hill Road leading to the Seaboard Trail. There are sidewalks from the stoplight at Creekside Elementary School across the street down to Summit. Along the road with Weatherby Way, Buckhorn Crescent, Deerfield Drive all the way to Raby Farm Road, there is no access along the road for walking. I have observed lots of people walking on the edge of the road in the grass and wooded area. During wet weather, the road floods at the curve, and cars speed all the time. It is very unsafe to walk in that curve area to access the resource of the trail that we have within walking distance. If sidewalks were available on both sides of the road, it would be an asset to the city.

I would appreciate consideration being given to sidewalks being installed on Shoulders Hill Road for all the residents in this area. The area is growing each day, and the widening of Shoulders Hill Road will only bring more traffic and speeding.

Thank you for your consideration.
