On Feb. 12, 2021, I, Harriette Cornelia Fraser Laskin, decided to be with my parents, Otto and Florence Fraser of blessed memory. I was born on July 6, 1942, at DePaul Hospital in Norfolk. Mine was a happy life with my sisters Hattie Ray, Florence Louise and Fay.
After Princess Anne High School, I graduated from James Madison College, as it was known then, then went on to Penn State. With a master’s degree in Art Education, I went on to teach for over 45 years. Whew, a long time, eh?
I leave behind my husband, Burt Laskin; my daughter, Dorothy Jackson, her husband, Ben, and their daughter, Sophia; my son, Gary; and my sisters, Louise and Fay. I made many friends in my lifetime, Judy Gallagher being one of my most important and dearest sister-like friends.
I was head of the TCC Portsmouth Campus Art Department. Later I taught and ran our pottery department. When I retired from TCC, I went to the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts, where I established the pottery department. It turned out to be immensely popular, and we were never in danger of having too few students.
My funeral will be private, so save your nice outfits for someone else. Please remember me kindly as I will miss you all. If you behave, perhaps I will see you later.
Please make a contribution to the Lake Prince Woods Benevolent Fund, 100 Anna Goode Way, Suffolk, VA 23434. These are the folks who help our less fortunate residents to live here, and it is quite worthy. Condolences may be registered at BWFosterFuneralHome.com.
