The Virginia Transit Association recently honored award winners from across the Commonwealth at its annual awards ceremony. The award ceremony this year was conducted virtually due to COVID-19 meeting restrictions.

Suffolk Transit was an honorable mention in the Outstanding Public Transportation Marketing Award category. Suffolk Transit was recognized for its “development of a successful social media marketing campaign to inform teenagers of low cost public transportation,” a press release stated.

The keynote speaker was Mr. Ron Brooks of American Logistics. Mr. Brooks is a leader within the transit industry and is completely blind. He shared his story as an example of how expansion of the use of on-demand transportation helps every person write their own stories of success.

The awards program was established to recognize innovation and achievement by public transportation systems and recognize the work of individuals who provide leadership and support for public transportation in Virginia at the local, regional or state level.

“We are thrilled to recognize transit systems and individuals from across the Commonwealth for going the extra mile to improve public transportation for all Virginians. We are also proud to roll out our Virginia Faces of Transit videos that highlight the essential services of public transit” said Lisa Guthrie, executive director of VTA.
