William “Billy” H. Byrd, 79, of Suffolk, passed away on Oct. 29, 2020. He was born on Oct. 26, 1941, in Nansemond County. He was the son of the late Jethro Jordan Byrd Sr. and Grace Ellis Byrd. Billy served in the XVIII Airborne Corps of the U. S. Army. He retired from Virginia Power as a serviceman with 36 years of service. Billy was a lifetime member of Cypress Chapel Christian Church and served as past Sunday School Superintendent, member and past president of the New Hope Bible Class, past chairman of the Missions Committee and served as a deacon and his current status was Deacon Emeritus. Billy was an honorary member of the Cypress Chapel Ruritan Club and served 31 years with perfect attendance. He is predeceased by his brothers Fred Byrd and Rudolph Byrd. 

Billy is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 54 years Florence E. Byrd, son and his wife Brian and Amber Byrd, daughter and her husband Denise and Michael Brinkley; grandchildren, Colbi, Graham, David, Caleb, Micah, Emerson, and Evan; sister Betty Byrd Knight and brother Jethro J. Byrd Jr. 

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3, at Cypress Chapel Christian Church with Rev. Alan Cruz, Rev. Clair Longuevan and Rev. Michael Brinkley officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Holly Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2, at Parr Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the residence.
