Firefighter suffers minor injuries, pets die in fire

One firefighter suffered minor injuries and several pets died in a residential structure fire Saturday evening on Kingsdale Road in the Kingsdale neighborhood of the city.
Battalion Chief William Kessinger said when firefighters arrived to the one-story residence in the 100 block of Kingsdale Road at 8:22 p.m., they found heavy fire showing from the single-story residence. The fire was under control by 9:42 p.m.
No one was home at the time of the fire, and three residents have been displaced, though no assistance is needed, according to a city news release.
The injured firefighter was treated at the scene and taken by ambulance to a local hospital.
Multiple pets died in the fire, including seven kittens, five snakes and three dogs.
Battalions 1, 2, and 3, along with Engines 4, 6, and 9, Ladder 3, Medic 6, EMS-2, Safety 1 and Rescue 1 responded to the fire.
The Fire Marshal’s Office will be handling the investigation as to the cause of the fire.
