Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

The virtual concert series is returning this fall in a new hybrid format.

After a successful summer, “Together on Stage” returns to Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts this fall. This time, limited seating is available to experience the music in person.

“We had six performances throughout the summer with a variety of artists,” said Gavin Harper, program manager at Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts. “It was only virtual, but now that we are in Phase III, we can open up the theater to the public for a live concert experience.”

With only an online presence, the first five performances this summer reached 23,952 unique viewers. Now the Suffolk Center’s 533-seat Birdsong Theater is open for 100 guests to come to enjoy the concert in person while maintaining the proper social distance.

For those not ready to come out quite yet, the concert will still be live-streamed for free on Suffolk Center for Cultural Art’s Facebook page at 8 p.m.

“We really tried to encourage local artists to have this platform to bring together the community both at home and in the theater,” said Harper.

The artists performing have local ties and various genres. The Tre’ Smith Band is first to perform with a reggae, soul and country sound on Sept. 17. Lewis McGehee will perform Oct. 1 with his alternative acoustic approach. Graduate of Norfolk State University, JuJu Drum, will share the stage with Kyra LaVonne on Oct. 15 with his Caribbean Beach style. The jazz band Connected will be onstage Oct. 29. Celeste Kellogg is last to perform in the fall series on Nov. 12 with her indie, country sound that has landed her more than 30,000 monthly listeners on Spotify.

“We really want to encourage people to come out and have fun,” said Harper. “The Suffolk Center is following all guidelines to allow for the best experience. There is a variety of music offered, and as a cultural arts center, we want to bring different styles for everyone to enjoy.”

Tickets are for sale but are limited. Purchase tickets in advance for $10 per person at suffolkcenter.org/together-on-stage or from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday at the Suffolk Center Box Office, 110 W. Finney Ave.
