The Nansemond River High School baseball team returns a strong group of players to compete this season.
The Warriors are gearing up for the spring season, returning much of their team from last season. They won more than 15 games last season and competed well with some of the best teams in the area. They earned a region tournament bid before losing to Hickory High School. However, coach Mark Stuffel is excited about this season and the potential of his group.
“We are returning every position from last season, pretty much,” Stuffel said. “I think we have a team that is going to be really good in the area this year.”
Returning for the Warriors are Bryson Dansberry, Cam Pittman, Nick Arnold and Ayden Stuffel, among others. All those players, along with others, plan to take it up a notch to see how far the Warriors can go this season.
The region is realigned this season, with a few bigger schools moving down. The Warriors know the competition will become tougher but are looking forward to competing at a high level. One thing the Warriors wanted to improve was their hitting, and that’s something Stuffel feels has improved.
“I expect it to be super competitive again this season, and we just want to go out there and play the best we can,” Stuffel said. “We wanted to hit better this season, and so far I have liked what I have seen there.”
