The Virginia High School League has canceled all state championship basketball games Friday and Saturday, meaning King’s Fork and Lakeland high schools will be declared co-champions of their respective classifications.
King’s Fork will be the Class 4 co-champions with Wilson High School while Lakeland will be the Class 3 co-champions with Cave Spring High School.
Both King’s Fork and Lakeland were scheduled to play Friday at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond.
“After continuing to assess the impact of COVID-19 and the recent cancellations throughout the sports world, we felt it was in the public interest to cancel our championship finals for Friday and Saturday,” VHSL Executive Director Billy Haun said in a statement.
“While we understand how disappointing this is for all fans of our teams, we feel this decision is in the best interest of public health, including that of, most importantly, our student-athletes, coaches, administrators, families, and fans.”
