Go see Exhibit of Excellence

If you don’t visit the Suffolk Art Gallery for any other show this year — and you absolutely should visit another show, but if you don’t — we urge you to go see the annual Exhibit of Excellence, which features student art from high school sophomores, juniors and seniors in Suffolk.
Visitors to this show will be amazed by what our local young people have accomplished. It is one of the mostly highly anticipated shows of the year, and it gives the uninitiated a stunning insight into the hearts and minds of local youth — not to mention the excellent and extensive arts education being provided by our local art teachers.
At this show, you’ll see a wide range of media used by these budding artists. Fans of watercolor paintings, pencil drawings, encaustic painting, acrylics, photography, mixed media, digital art and everything in between can find their favorites at this show, and you can’t help but appreciate the raw talent, creativity and dedication that went into making the works.
The show also offers great evidence for the importance of arts education in schools. You can see that our young people are learning to express themselves on all sorts of topics, from the serious to the silly, through their art, and that is what is most important.
The show will be on display through Feb. 28 at the Suffolk Art Gallery, 118 Bosley Ave. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays. Admission is free.
