The Nansemond River High School boys’ basketball team got a 64-54 win over Indian River High School at home last Friday.
The Warriors got a much-needed win over fellow region mate Indian River. Indian River was 13-3 coming into the matchup, with the Warriors coming away with an impressive 10-point victory, which will help their chances of securing a Class 5A playoff spot.
Justin Fatherly led the way in scoring for the Warriors, with 20 points shooting 8-14 from the floor. Myron Brown added 14 points on 7-13 shooting with seven rebounds, while Jakari Joy added 12 points and Luke Williamson added 11 points. Omar Branch added nine points, giving the Warriors almost five players in double figures. Nansemond River shot 50 percent from the floor as a team and forced 18 turnovers.
“Really great effort against a playoff bound team,” Coach Ed Young said. “We stuck to our game plan, and when they made a couple of big runs at us, we held our composure.”
Nansemond River will head to Lakeland Tuesday night for another showdown with the Cavs.
