The Suffolk Christian Academy Lady Knights basketball went into double overtime with Summit Christian Academy and earned a 28-24 win.
Suffolk Christian was down 8-14 heading into the fourth quarter before an 11-point burst by the Lady Knights in the fourth quarter helped set the scene for the first overtime between the two teams.
In the first overtime, both teams only scored two points before Suffolk Christian outscored Summit 7-3 in the final overtime. Laura Cornette led the way with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Jadyn Patton added nine points.
“We had some opportunities in regulation I felt like we could have capitalized on, but we didn’t,” Coach Kristy Patton said. “But I’m proud of the girls for pushing through. We have some very timely free throws throughout the game that helped us tremendously, and the girls just had the will to win.”
The last time the two teams matched up, Suffolk Christian took a three-point loss. The win put the Lady Knights at 6-8 on the season, and even though the season hasn’t gone as expected to this point, Patton is happy with her team making late pushes in the latter half of the season.
“The girls have really showed the will to win,” Patton said. “Knowing we had lost to them earlier and had been looking for a win, they played hard. The girls have been showing they want to turn this around, so we are looking forward to what’s ahead and seeing how we can build on this.”
