A Suffolk man pleaded guilty last week to multiple counts stemming from the molestation of a family member that lasted for 10 years.
Jonathan Mark Lewis, 44, pleaded guilty to one count of rape by force, two counts of object sexual penetration of a victim under 13, one count of rape of a child under 13, two counts of aggravated sexual battery, one count of child cruelty, two counts of indecent liberties and three counts of sodomy of a victim under 13.
Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Marie Walls said the case began when police were contacted to respond to Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk. Lewis was at the hospital making statements about molesting his family member for the last 10 years, Walls stated.
He had been a teacher at a private Christian school not in Suffolk, Walls stated, and detectives went there to ensure there were no other victims. Lewis eventually admitted he was in therapy for a pornography addiction and did have thoughts about other children but would redirect himself.
Detectives interviewed the victim, who was molested from the ages of 6 to 16. It was very difficult for her to talk about what happened, but she was able to share.
Lewis will be sentenced April 9.
