Former King’s Fork High School standout Deshaun Wethington recently was selected All-Conference as a standout for Chowan University.
Former Bulldog Deshaun “Deebo” Wethington recently wrapped up a remarkable year on the gridiron for the Chowan University Hawks in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association. As the Hawks’ lead back, he broke the school’s single-season rushing record with 1,382 yards. He rushed for 172 yards per game, which is another school record, and led the nation in all-purpose yards with 183.5.
Impressively, Wethington accomplished all of this in only eight games, having missed two due to injuries. This season was Wethington’s first return to field action since 2016, when he played one season at Towson University. He is only in his sophomore year of eligibility, so the next two seasons look even brighter for Wethington and his journey with the Chowan football program.
Chowan finished this season with a 3-7 record.
While at King’s Fork, Wethington played under Joe Jones and made his mark in that school’s record books as well. He finished with more than 5,900 rushing yards to go along with 73 touchdowns. He was an All-Region and All-State selection and was a Conference Player of the Year. Wethington was also touted as a three-star recruit.
