Shoppers in Suffolk will soon be able to make donations to support the 23rd Annual Mayflower Marathon food drive, hosted by “Classic Rock 106.9 The Fox” and “FM99” from Nov. 22 to 24.
This food drive will take place at four separate locations between Hampton, Tabb, Virginia Beach and Suffolk.
The Suffolk location will be the Kroger Marketplace at 1017 University Blvd. Food and monetary donations can be dropped off at the large tent and foodbank trucks in the Kroger parking lot, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Nov. 22 and 23, and from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Nov. 24.
“People can also look for the donation bin inside the Kroger if they come outside of (those) hours,” WAFX and WNOR Marketing Director Sonja Morrell wrote in an email.
The other locations will be the Coliseum Marketplace at Coliseum Central in Hampton, the Kroger on Victory Boulevard in Tabb, and at Pembroke Mall in Virginia Beach.
All food and monetary donations collected in Virginia Beach and Suffolk will go to the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore, according to the press release, while donations made at the Hampton and Tabb locations will benefit the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank.
“The Mayflower Marathon demonstrates our community’s longstanding commitment to eliminating hunger and serves as an integral part of our efforts to feed families experiencing food insecurity during the holiday season,” Ruth Jones Nichols, president and chief executive officer of the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore, stated in the press release. “Last year, through the generous support of the community, we provided over 580,000 meals for hungry families in Southeastern Virginia and on the Eastern Shore.
“We look forward to another successful food drive as we work to ensure all families have access to healthy meals throughout this festive time of year.”
