The King’s Fork High School boys’ volleyball team’s season ended in a regional tournament loss to Denbigh High School.
The Bulldogs wrapped up a strong season with a five-set loss to Denbigh High School Tuesday night. King’s Fork took the first two sets before losing the last three.
After winning the first couple of sets, Coach Angie Gatling believed the Bulldogs might have gotten too comfortable, which allowed Denbigh to go on a run.
“We couldn’t pull ourselves out of the hole,” Gatling said. “We made a couple of mistakes in some key places which led to the loss, which I chalk up to experience. We have one player that’s played volleyball for at least four years. So, experience got the best of us.”
The Bulldogs took the loss hard, as they were not ready for the season to be over. They won their first-round playoff game due to forfeit which got them into the second round. Overall, Gatling felt good about the season and believes the Bulldogs have made significant progress from last year.
“I felt good about this year,” Gatling said. “We were able to cover more things this year than last year. We had a lot of guys learning last year, and this year we focused more on building skill. The guys were able to grow their skills more this season. I wanted to make it a point to teach them more about the game.”
The Bulldogs finished the season 11-12.
