Seeking photo submissions

Published 9:45 pm Thursday, October 31, 2019

It’s hard to believe we’re already in November.

Lots of people feel like they’ve been living in some sort of time warp lately. For whatever reason, many of us feel stuck somewhere between March and June, and we really aren’t quite sure where the summer and half of autumn have gone already.

Even so, it is in fact November. The clocks will “fall back” this weekend, and it’s time to start thinking about the upcoming holidays that so many of us enjoy and even the turning of the calendar.

Speaking of calendars, the Suffolk News-Herald will be producing its calendar soon, and we are once again looking for submissions to get as many of our readers involved as possible.

We won’t have a contest this year — Suffolk News-Herald staff will simply choose the best from among the photos. We’re looking for photos of Suffolk’s natural beauty, culture, arts and more. Keep in mind that this is a calendar, so photographs that depict a specific season or holiday are more likely to be chosen.

New this year, we are requiring that the photographs submitted be taken in Suffolk, and that you tell us the specific location or at least describe it as best you can. In previous years, we have received photos of mountain ranges and ocean beaches, which were beautiful but clearly not taken in Suffolk, which is the focus of everything we do and of the calendar in particular.

We’re also going to limit submissions to five photographs per person and request that the photos have not been printed in any other publication and have been taken within the past three years. Other requirements are that photo files be high-resolution and that photos be in a horizontal presentation.

Include your name with your submission and send them to news@suffolknewsherald.com by the absolutely firm deadline of Nov. 12. We will pick the best ones for our calendar, which you can find inserted in the paper on Tuesday, Nov. 26. If you miss it or need extras, they will also be available at our office for a VERY limited amount of time, but don’t wait too long — they always go quickly!

We thank you in advance for your submissions and can’t wait to see through your lenses.
