The Suffolk Christian Academy girls’ volleyball team had two players recognized for All-Conference honors.
The SCA Lady Knights made progress as a team this season and improved upon what they accomplished last season. They did have a tougher schedule this season, facing very formidable opponents in non-conference matchups, but they felt good about the way they finished.
“We finished up well,” Coach Scott Cornette said. “We were very competitive in a lot of games. We proved we could play well with some of the stronger teams that have more experience. We take pride in that, and to know that we can compete is encouraging. We have improved each year over the last three years.”
Two bright spots for the Lady Knights this season have been Jadyn Patton and Emily Watters, who were both recognized on the Hampton Roads Athletic Conference All-Conference teams. Cornette said both players made outstanding impacts for the team throughout the year.
“Jadyn had taken a year off and came in and played such a high-profile position for us,” he said. “She is just an overall good athlete, so I was proud of her and how she was able to perform. Emily is one of our homeschooled players, and she made a phenomenal transition. As an outside hitter, her confidence grew tremendously. Both are only sophomores and can build on this.”
SCA is excited about what they will have as a group for next season. The JV team had a successful season, and Cornette is looking forward to some of those girls moving up, along with the returns of Patton and Watters.
“We have a lot of promise next year, and we hope to be in an even better position,” Cornette said. “We have a lot to look forward to, and we hope we can get over the hump.”
