Weekend of sunshine

The best way to ensure great weather for Peanut Fest is to will it into existence by putting “sun shine” right in the theme of the event.

At least, that seems to be the lesson from this year’s festival. The theme of “Let the Sun Shine, It’s Peanut Fest Time” seems to have been heeded as a demand by the heavens, which produced nary a cloud on Thursday and Friday for the start of the festival.

Saturday promised to be more of the same, and we hope scattered showers on Sunday won’t take away from the beauty of this weekend’s weather.

Once Peanut Fest is over, of course, we hope for plenty of rain to counteract the drought conditions most of the state has been experiencing. But just for this weekend, we’re more than happy to see the dry, sunny and seasonably cool weather.

Peanut Fest in the past has tended to suffer from rainy and muddy conditions, so it’s understandable the festival organizers chose to summon the sunny weather in their choice of a theme.

We had a great time producing the newspaper from our tent at the festival on Thursday and Friday and meeting and greeting many people on Saturday. We were so glad to get the chance to see and talk to lots of people about the paper, and lots of you asked great questions about our work and gave lots of compliments and constructive criticism. We were so happy to hear all of your input, because this is your newspaper, and we want to make sure it reflects the community’s interests and concerns.

Once again, we extend our thanks to the many volunteers and the handful of paid staff who work hard all year long, but especially in the days and weeks leading up to the festival, to make it such a success. The Peanut Fest is a great event, and we hope it continues for many more years.
