The Saints football team went to 2-4 on the season after a home 34-13 win over Atlantic Shores Christian School on Friday.
The Saints have started to get going with wins over Portsmouth Christian School and Atlantic Shores. It was a strong win for the Saints, who head into their bye week on a two-game win streak.
Nansemond-Suffolk Academy put up at least 30 points for the second straight game. They jumped out to a quick lead in the first quarter, going up 14-0 and led 21-7 at the half. After allowing six points in the third quarter, the Saints continued to build momentum against Atlantic Shores. Coach Mike Biehl talked about his team wanting to jump out on opponents early each game, and it contributed to the success they had.
“Anytime you can get out of a little slump and put your best foot forward and get a win, it’s always good,” Biehl said. “We are always looking to really jump on people. We know we are going to have a lot of energy from start to finish, but it was about turning that into great execution as well.”
Ian McAninley had a good night, tossing three touchdowns for NSA. Drew Bergeron added two touchdowns, rushing for one and catching one. Jeffrey Dailey also rushed for a touchdown, while Jaden Freeman and Simon Dowd both caught touchdown passes as well.
With NSA now on a bye, they have a chance to get players healthy, and the Saints are excited about the opportunity to get extra work in before they get back on the road.
“I love the way our schedule is set up with the bye week set up kind of in the middle,” Biehl said. “It gives us a chance to evaluate ourselves and see where we are at for the second half of the season. It’s a tale of two seasons, and we have to be ready to finish strong in the second half of it.”
