A haunted reading adventure

Spots are still available for Suffolk readers to sign up for a spooky “Adventure Book Club” that will combine reading with fun this October.
Suffolk Public Library’s Adventure Book Club for October allows readers to register and receive a copy of the book “The Haunting of Hill House.” Readers will then meet for a group discussion of the book from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Suffolk Visitor Center, 524 N. Main St.
After the group discussion that evening, participants will enjoy the Suffolk Tourism walking tour “Legends of Main Street: A Suffolk Ghost Walk,” a hair-raising good time that fits the atmosphere they’ll find themselves in when they read “The Haunting of Hill House.”
“’The Haunting of Hill House’ is a classic example of a haunted house story, but it remains relevant and engaging to new readers,” Megan Mulvey, library outreach and program services manager, wrote in an email. “There have been multiple movies based on the novel and there’s currently series on Netflix by the same name. And the book is a terrifying read!”
Readers may register for the Adventure Book Club online at suffolkpubliclibrary.com, then a staff person will place a hold on a copy of the book on the reader’s library account.
Those without a library account may visit a Suffolk Public Library branch to sign up for one, and then let a staff member know they are interested in the book club.
As of Thursday, there are six spots still available for the book club.
“We monitor the waiting list and if there is an influx of registrations, it is possible that more spots could open,” Mulvey wrote. “However, I can’t guarantee copies of the book to more than 10 participants.”
