Woman arrested on assault by mob charge

A Suffolk woman was arrested Monday following an investigation into an assault that happened Aug. 31.
Jayla Monae Holmes, 18, is charged with injury by caustic agent, explosive or fire, assault or battery by mob, disorderly conduct, participate in unlawful assembly, conspiracy to incite riot, contributing to delinquency of a minor, and riot.
The incident was reported about 2:44 p.m. Aug. 31 from the 6100 block of Brookwood Drive in the College Square neighborhood, according to a city press release.
A woman said she and her granddaughter were assault by several females while in their vehicle at that location.
Preliminary investigation found that Holmes “was involved in the altercation and also allegedly sprayed one of the victims with pepper spray during the alleged assault,” the press release stated.
Warrants are also on file for Danielle Yvonne Renea McLean, 23, of Portsmouth, in relation to the incident, the press release stated.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges could be filed, the press release stated.
