Kore FitWell will hold its fourth annual “Fight to the Kore” breast cancer event in Suffolk on Sept. 28.

The event will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at YMCA Camp Arrowhead, 275 Kenyon Road. The day will feature a 5K run and walk, food, music and other entertainment, as well as various educational workshops.

There will be vendors such as Mary Kay, Family Springs, Paparazzi and many more, according to Kore FitWell founder Darla Banks.

Educational workshops will include the event’s keynote speaker from the Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation, a physical therapist, cancer survivors and others related to health, wellness and self-care. Small exercise classes like yoga and Zumba will also be available.

Darla Banks is a Suffolk resident who founded the Kore FitWell organization to help cancer patients live heathy lives. Banks herself is a breast cancer survivor and has been cancer-free for seven years.

“Yearly, we choose an organization within our own community to donate based on their needs,” Banks wrote in an email. “Last year we purchased blankets and donated to local oncology offices and called the movement ‘Blanket of Blessings.’”

Banks and the rest of her Kore FitWell team are asking for participants to sign up for this year’s event and help local cancer patients find comfort in improved health.

“It is important for people to support this event, because cancer has touched each one of us,” Banks wrote. “Let’s make a difference and impact in numbers. The goal is to raise money to give back and educate our communities. Knowledge is key.”

Registration is open for both participants and vendors at the Sept. 28 walk. Early admission tickets are $28.16 and $33.46 for general admission. Registration for vendors will be $75 if they register this weekend, from Friday to Sunday.
