Graz’n Acres Thereaputic Riding Center will hold its annual poker run for motorcyclists on Sept. 28.
Registration will be from 9 to 10 a.m. at Tidewater Motorcycles, 4324 Godwin Blvd. Participants will then enjoy a scenic ride down country roads before they end at the center, located at 14492 Ivor Road in Sedley.
According to Cyndi Raiford, director and lead instructor at Graz’n Acres Therapeutic Riding Center, the ride typically takes riders about three hours to complete. There will be stops along the way for riders to draw playing cards for their poker hands, and whoever has the best hand at the end of the ride is the winner.
Riders will enjoy a barbecue lunch, awards, raffle prizes and more after the ride.
Money raised by the poker run will help support services at Graz’n Acres, a nonprofit that provides therapy and assistance to people with disabilities.
The center was founded in 1999 and has grown to serve approximately 100 participants annually with numerous volunteers and eight horses and ponies, according to graznacres.org. The largest program at the center is therapeutic mounted riding that’s focused on balance, coordination and both fine and gross motor skills.
The center serves the cities of Franklin and Suffolk, counties of Isle of Wight, Southampton and Sussex, plus the surrounding areas of Southeastern Virginia and Northeastern North Carolina.
“We pull (participants) from a large service area, and the fundraisers are a big part of what keeps the center operational,” Raiford said.
Registration will cost $20 per rider. For more information, call Cyndi Raiford at 653-9615 or email grazn99@gmail.com.
