The 24th annual Treasurer’s United Way Golf Tournament will be held Sept. 13 at the Nansemond River Golf Club, 1000 Hillpoint Road, and participants can still register through Sept. 9.
The golf tournament has 31 teams registered as of Wednesday afternoon for a total of 124 players and counting, according to Tournament Coordinator Shirley Snead.
This tournament supports health and human service agencies that serve the Suffolk community through the United Way of Hampton Roads, representing more than 70 different United Way agencies.
In 2018, the tournament raised $21,250 that was distributed among many local organizations, such as the Boys and Girls Club of Suffolk, the Sickle Cell Association and the Genieve Shelter.
“We support a number of agencies that are unique to Suffolk and that serve Suffolk in particular,” said Suffolk City Treasurer Ronald Williams.
It’s an event in which golfers of all skill levels will be able to enjoy themselves, as well.
“You’ve got some nice prizes for really serious golfers, and then you’ve got people that only play occasionally,” Williams said. “It’s an outing as much as it is a tournament, and we always have a good turnout.”
Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m., with breakfast provided by Chick-fil-A. A putting contest will be held at 9 a.m., followed by a helicopter golf ball drop at 9:45 a.m., courtesy of Hampton Roads Helicopters.
The tournament will have a shotgun start at 10 a.m. The format will be Florida Best Ball with four-person teams. Lunch will be served at noon and provided by Subway. Dinner will be served later in the day, and an awards ceremony will be held.
Levels of participation include individual registration for $100, team sponsor for $400, hole sponsor for $500, beverage sponsor for $2,000, food sponsor for $2,500 and major sponsor for $3,500.
