Summer Soiree for all this Friday

People can stop by the library this weekend to enjoy an evening of communal Suffolk fun on the dance floor.
Suffolk Public Library will hold its Summer Dance Soiree on Friday from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the North Suffolk Library, 2000 Bennetts Creek Park Road. This free community dance is an open invitation for friends, families, couples — anyone that wants to have a good time and meet new people.
“People can bring a dance partner or just bring themselves as an opportunity to make a new acquaintance,” the press release stated.
This is the library’s second community dance since last year’s Hollywood-themed dance party drew a sizable crowd of all ages. This year, the library is arranging a dance-filled evening with an “under the sea” theme.
Dancers are encouraged to dress up in semi-formal attire, although it is not required. There will be light refreshments for participants, and plenty of different backdrops and props for the photo booth to go with the rest of the beach and sea-life decorations, according to Community Services Librarian Matthew Thompson.
There will be arts and crafts projects and other interactive aspects, as well. Attendees will pin decorative fish to a mural and make their own lei necklaces with paper, Thompson said.
Thompson stated in the press release that this event is about building community and providing an opportunity for people in Suffolk to come together and build that sense of community in a fun way.
This Friday night, people will do that by dancing under disco lights and a mirror ball.
“People will still dance the heck out of the macarena,” Thompson said, along with the YMCA, the wobble and all sorts of other fun moves. “It’s cool to see folks come together and dance.”
