Bakers will face one another in a tasty competition when the “Cupcake Wars” begin at the Lake Prince Woods Retirement Community later in July.
The Cupcake Wars competition will be held on July 13 from 2 to approximately 4 p.m. in the Portsmouth Room at Lake Prince Woods, 100 Anna Goode Way. Tickets are $5 and support the 2019 Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
Bakers will prepare all sorts of delicious varieties of cupcakes for ticket-holders to try out during the competition, including some fan-favorite recipes, said Denise Brown, resident services director at Lake Prince Woods.
Participants will check in with their tickets and receive a poker chip. They will then try out each of the cupcakes and leave their respective chips with their favorite confections.
The winning baker will receive a plaque that — riffing on Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” — reads “BAKERS gonna bake, bake, bake, bake,” according to Brown.
This is the third year that the Cupcake Wars will be held to benefit the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, and each year people have supported the cause with their dollars and taste buds.
“I think it’s folks that have the commitment to Walk to End Alzheimer’s that’s bringing them out,” Brown said.
Tickets may be purchased in advance and also on the day of the event. Email dbrown@uchas.org or call 923-5513 for more information.
