Harris Teeter recently announced a $25,000 pledge to the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore in support of its End Summer Hunger digital campaign. The company will match donations up to $25,000 to provide healthy meals to children facing food insecurities during the summer months.
Harris Teeter invites its shoppers and community members to donate to the End Summer Hunger digital campaign through the foodbank’s online donation portal. The company will match online donations, up to $25,000, now through June 30.
“While most children look forward to summer and trips to the pool, others wonder when they will receive their next meal,” said Ruth Jones Nichols, chief executive officer of the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and The Eastern Shore. “Thousands of students in our service area benefit from free and reduced price meals during the school year, and many families struggle to provide those two additional meals while school is out for the summer. With Harris Teeter’s support through our current match program, we can help eliminate summer hunger.”
“Feeding hungry families is Harris Teeter’s number one giving priority,” said Danna Robinson, communication manager for Harris Teeter. “Through the End Summer Hunger campaign, we can make a difference for the children in our community whose families are unable to provide nutritious meals at home.”
Funds raised through the campaign will support children’s hunger relief efforts in Suffolk, Portsmouth, Chesapeake, Franklin, Norfolk and Virginia Beach, as well as the counties of Southampton, Northampton, Sussex, Isle of Wight and Accomack.
