Suffolk had six players on the Southeastern District’s All-District girls’ soccer teams.
The district features some of the top girls’ soccer teams not only in Hampton Roads but also in the state. There is tough competition each year, and the Suffolk schools were able to have some players shine through this year in a talented district.
Nansemond River High School senior Sarah Rhiel headlines the first team as the only member from Suffolk. Rhiel had a strong senior campaign, helping the Lady Warriors earn the sixth seed in their region. Rhiel also went on a five-game stretch where she scored more than 12 goals combined. She was among the leader in goals scored in Suffolk and in South Hampton Roads. Rhiel is headed to Christopher Newport University to play soccer.
Nansemond River had three more players represented on the All-District second team. Saleena Lynch, Sophie Mitchell and Haley Russell were all selected, bringing the Lady Warriors’ total to four players.
Lonni Cox and Alexis Alston of King’s Fork High School were second team selections. For the second year in a row, Cox led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring.
Of the six selections from Suffolk, four were seniors.
