Newport News man dead in shooting

A Newport News man died in a shooting that happened early Tuesday.

The shooting was reported at 4:35 a.m. from the 2100 block of Gentry Street in the Remington Park neighborhood, according to a city press release. Callers said they heard gunshots in the area.

When police arrived, they found an adult male victim deceased from an apparent gunshot wound, the press release stated.

The victim, 20-year-old Gregory I. Goodman, was identified by Suffolk Police Tuesday afternoon.

The neighborhood where the shooting happened is located off Shoulders Hill Road.

The investigation remains ongoing, and there are no additional details available for release.
