NSA advances to TCIS championship

A walk-off hit in the ninth inning sealed the deal for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy’s softball team as it advanced to the conference championship game, beating Norfolk Christian School 5-4 Thursday.
Jessica Chang’s hit in the ninth brought home the winning run for the Lady Saints.
Norfolk Christian took the lead first in the first inning 1-0 before NSA scored runs in the third and fourth innings to take its first lead.
However, a big fifth inning from Norfolk Christian had a big fifth inning, scoring three times to take a 4-2 lead. In the seventh inning, NSA scored twice to send the game to extra innings.
NSA had ten hits, with Rory Rockwood going 3-for-5. Anni Groves, Madison Inscoe and Addy Greene also added two hits apiece. Inscoe and Reese Byrd pitched the game, with Inscoe taking the win, striking out six and allowing just one hit.
NSA will play in the conference championship at 5 p.m. at Stoney Run Complex in Newport News.
