The Suffolk Public Library will offer an “Intro to Drones” this Saturday for those that want to either test-fly a drone in Chuckatuck or bring their own to show off their flying skills.
The drone demonstration program will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the Chuckatuck Library, 5881 Godwin Blvd. This program is free and open to the public with no registration required.
Suffolk Fire and Rescue and Suffolk Police will give talks and demonstrations beginning at 10:30 a.m. Participants ages 16 and up will be able to test fly the library’s new drone and attempt to land it on a target.
“If anyone has an interest in drones, how they work and what they’re used for, then they should definitely check out this program,” Emerging Technologies Librarian Bill Edwards-Bodmer wrote in an email.
There will be other activities throughout the morning, including rubber band helicopters, paper airplanes and balloon rocket activities.
“This will be a fun event for the Chuckatuck Library because there is plenty of room at our Chuckatuck location for an outdoor program like this one,” Edwards-Bodmer wrote. “It’s the perfect spot to show off the library’s new drone, as well as see some awesome and informative drone demonstrations from the Suffolk Police and Fire departments.”
