Two seriously injured in motorcycle accident

Two people were taken to hospitals with serious injuries after a motorcycle accident Sunday afternoon.
Suffolk Police and Suffolk Fire & Rescue responded after the call came in at 1:37 p.m. The accident happened on westbound Route 58 at the downtown Suffolk exit, a city press release stated.
Preliminary investigation found the motorcycle left the roadway and hit the guardrail, according to the press release.
The adult male driver was airlifted by Nightingale to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with serious injuries, the press release stated. An adult female passenger was taken by ground ambulance to Norfolk General also suffering from serious injuries.
The downtown exit ramp on Route 58 was closed and traffic detoured while the investigation was under way. The roadway reopened by 3 p.m.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
