Woman airlifted following Route 58 crash

A woman was airlifted with serious injuries following a single-vehicle accident on Friday afternoon.
The crash was reported at 1:54 p.m. It happened on Route 58 westbound just before the downtown overpass exit, according to a city press release.
Preliminary investigation found that the woman’s vehicle left the roadway, struck the guardrail, then overturned and struck a tree. The woman had to be extricated by Suffolk Fire & Rescue. She was taken to Sentara Obici Hospital and then airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, the press release stated.
All westbound lanes were initially closed. One lane remains closed as debris is cleared and the vehicle is towed.
The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, the press release stated.
