Clergy issue ‘call to prayer’
Published 9:35 pm Friday, February 8, 2019
To the editor:
In light of recent political events in Virginia and due to our current political climate, we members of Suffolk Clergy United extend a call to prayer for our leaders and fellow citizens.
We urge a call to prayer for us
- to exercise reason, not reactivity nor rush to judgment, in matters that generate much emotion;
- to engage in more dialogue among our varied racial groups to talk about our varied experiences. We are at our best when we know people by names, not by labels;
- to remember the value of present and recent behavior in spite of past mistakes;
- and, above all, to remember the importance of confession and forgiveness in our faith traditions.
