Cavs take round two against Bulldogs

The Lakeland High School boys’ basketball team took down the Bulldogs for the second time this season last Friday.
The Cavs are 2-0 currently against the King’s Fork High School after a 72-58 win.
The teams met a couple of weeks ago in the first round of the Bulldogs Holiday Tournament, and Lakeland took that game 59-49. Lakeland is currently 3-1 against its Suffolk counterparts so far this season. Coach Clint Wright believes the win-loss record against Suffolk opponents is starting to show the maturity of his team.
“It shows maturity. It also shows poise and composure,” Wright said. “Any time you play against a rival, it’s tough, so to get a second win against a very good opponent is always great for us.”
Quentin Livingston had one of his best games of the season for Lakeland, going for 21 points and grabbing 18 rebounds. Clint Wright Jr. added 19 points and Raymond Bellamy added 13 to put Lakeland at three players in double-figures.
For King’s Fork, George Beale added 20 to lead the Bulldogs, with Leontre Bailey adding 17. In the first meeting, the Cavs wanted to limit the impact senior Keontae Boyette could have for the Bulldogs. He had 15 points in the first meeting but was only limited to nine points in the meeting last Friday. Coach Rick Hite felt Lakeland controlled the game with their tenacity and rebounding.
“They did a great job on the glass,” Hite said. “They made everything tough on us. They used athleticism and toughness to tilt the game in their favor. They played with more edge and made more shots.”
King’s Fork will host Indian River High School at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Lakeland will go on the road to face Hickory High School at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
