Judy L. Shinn

Dr. Judy L. Shinn, 79, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2018, after a prolonged illness. The daughter of Dr. Chien-chuan Su and Mrs. Sue-eng Su, she was born in Taipei, Taiwan, where she married her sweetheart, William “Bill” Shinn. She and Bill followed her adventurous spirit to pursue her education in America. She earned her Ph.D. in physics from the University of Virginia and worked at NASA Langley for several decades. During her career, she published an extensive volume of scientific research and earned multiple accolades for her work. Outside of work, she loved to play tennis and captained her champion NASA Team against the teams from the Peninsula USTA League.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 53 years, Bill; her elder sister, Lillian Chen (Yancy) and her younger brother, Alexander Su (Josephine); and numerous nieces and nephews, on whom she doted as her own children. She is predeceased by her sisters, Lila Doong and Ling-mai Lan, and her brother, Robert Su.

She will lie from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 21-22, 2018, at Baker-Foster Funeral Home, 5685 Lee Farm Lane, Suffolk. Visitation with family will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice in honor of Judy.
