“Christmas in Driver” is set to roll into town on Saturday, with Santa Claus coming in on his brightly lit fire truck.
Presented by the Driver Merchants Association, Driver Volunteer Fire Department and American Legion Post 88, the annual festivities will be held in Driver from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Santa will arrive by fire truck at 6 p.m. and head over to the Knot Hole Station.
He will be upstairs in the Christmas room for children to get pictures and ask for the gifts they most want to find under the tree on Christmas Day.
“Some of the firemen actually put lights on their hats when they come out,” said Driver Events Chair Terri Johnson.
Big Daddy’s Kettle Corn will be giving out their namesake treats for free at their booth, and the Driver Volunteer Fire Department and American Legion Post 88 will be between The Knot Hole and Twisted Art and More with free hot cocoa and Brunswick stew.
Girl Scouts will be singing Christmas carols, and donations of unwrapped toys will be accepted for Toys for Tots, along with non-perishable food items for a local food pantry.
More than 500 people came out to last year’s “Christmas in Driver” to shop for Christmas gifts and enjoy free, family fun as well, Johnson said.
“It’s our way of giving back to the community after Driver Days,” she said.
