Saturday swapping and donating

Suffolk Public Library will hold its “Everything but the Kitchen Sink: Swap Meet and Food Drive” at two of its branches on Saturday.
Residents can bring unwanted clothing, toys, supplies, tools and other household items to Morgan Memorial Library, 443 W. Washington St., and North Suffolk Library, 2000 Bennetts Creek Park Road, and swap for things that they need. The swap meet and food drive will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
According to Library Outreach and Program Services Manager Megan Mulvey, the library has held similar swap meets in the past for books and baby supplies.
“We just decided to do everything this time,” Mulvey said. “We thought that it would just be easier to let everybody bring whatever they wanted to get rid of, but might still meet the need of someone else.”
Non-perishable food items will be collected for the Suffolk Christian Fellowship Center’s food bank, along with any leftover items from the swap meet. Food donations should not be packed in glass, and canned foods with pop-top lids are preferred over those that require a can opener.
The following items are need the most: canned and dry beans, peanut butter and other nut butters, oatmeal, canned fruit in juice without heavy syrup, canned vegetables with low or no sodium, canned tuna in water, canned chicken, brown or white rice, shelf-stable milk and milk substitutes, pasta and low-sodium pasta sauce, canned stews, apple sauce, low-sugar cold cereals, olive or canola oil, honey and broth or stock.
