The Bennett’s Creek Warriors junior varsity football team will head to Pop Warner regional competition this weekend in Raleigh, N.C.
The Bennett’s Creek Warriors will head down to North Carolina with plans of qualifying for national competition. The Warriors will have to take care of business in Raleigh, and if they win there, they will come back to Hampton Roads to play in the regional championship, and from there they could possibly qualify for national competition down in Florida.
The Warriors have an overall record of 4-4, with all four wins coming in their division where they went undefeated. Now, they are in a position to go play some regional football, and they will have a possible shot at a national title.
“The players are excited, and the parents are excited,” Coach Ricky Cambridge said. “We want to go down there and do well.”
The Warriors have also been fundraising money that will go toward traveling fees and food for the kids. If Bennett’s Creek gets a chance to go to nationals, the fundraising will be even more important for the organization.
“Since we are a non-profit organization, any money that comes into the organization is through donation or fundraising,” Cambridge said. “That money helps us do things for the kids in our organization to try to give them an experience of a lifetime.”
If the Warriors win this weekend, they will play in the regional championship at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex Nov. 24.
