Jefferson B. DeLoatch

Jefferson B. DeLoatch, also known as “JB,” passed away peacefully on Oct. 29, 2018, at the residence of James and Cynthia Sheppard in Scottsville. He was born April 1, 1919, in Conway, N.C., to his parents, Mance and Rachel Maddrey-DeLoatch, who moved with him to Suffolk when he was 5.

In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by a son, Nikita DeLoatch, and two brothers, Joe and Charlie DeLoatch. He attended East Suffolk High School in Suffolk. He served in World War II and later retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard in 1981. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, farming, traveling and reading. He leaves to cherish his memories two daughters, Cynthia Sheppard (James) and Angela Arrington; three sons, Ronnie, Jefferson (Balmer) and Shelton DeLoatch. He also leaves loving memories with 17 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A viewing will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, 2018, in the funeral home. A celebration of life will be held at noon Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018, in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
