Family-owned Suffolk paving company RC Paving and Son LLC will host a grand opening on Saturday at a new location and with a new retail business on site.
RC Paving and Son has relocated from Indian Trail to 1436 Holland Road, and the grand opening ceremony will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. at this location. The company has been doing business in Suffolk since Robert Chavis Sr. founded it in 1979 with three men and one truck, according to the press release.
It’s now a full-service, certified Small, Women and Minority-owned contractor, helmed by Robert Chavis Jr. with the support of his family. His wife, Andrea Chavis, is the administrator of both RC Paving and Chavis Safety and Supply, the new retail side of the family business.
The retail storefront will provide both contractors and residents with asphalt, concrete and construction supplies and will also serve as a stand-alone shop for tools, equipment and safety products, according to the press release.
“We have successfully helped hundreds of families and businesses in and around Norfolk and Suffolk,” Andrea Chavis stated in the press release. “Our customers enjoy the quality of work, and we are looking forward to helping even more with the addition of the new Chavis Safety and Supply storefront.”
Offering services in Suffolk, Newport News and other nearby cities in Hampton Roads, Robert Chavis Jr. said that the move was made for more space, better exposure and a destination for new customers.
His family’s success has been built on years of reputable contracting and relationship building through the region, and he said he’s looking forward to moving his father’s legacy into the future.
“He built it, and my biggest success for it is growing and adding to that small business he built many years ago,” he said.
