TowneBank ranked among top workplaces

If you don’t use your allotted sick days at TowneBank during a calendar year, the executive chairman hosts a luncheon and awards you two extra vacation days. To assist with a professional wardrobe, the company provides member service representatives and receptionists with a $600-to-$1,200 clothing allowance, plus time off to shop with a personal consultant. Add in on-site massages and car washes, and it’s easy to understand why American Banker magazine recently ranked Towne as the 14th Best Bank to Work For in America among 85 named, and the only Virginia bank in the top 20.
Among financial institutions listed with $10 billion or more in assets, Towne was No. 1.
The magazine asked all companies to respond to a number of questions about best practices and workplace benefits, then surveyed employees as part of its sixth annual “Best Banks to Work For” recognition. Towne has been consistently ranked among the best employers in Hampton Roads, being named Best Place to Work six times by Inside Business and twice by CoVa BIZ.
American Banker also noted that Towne has an avid community service initiative called ‘Going to Towne’ that, in 2017, involved more than 1,000 employees donating close to 4,300 hours of time to some 500 schools, shelters and other nonprofit organizations. Other benefits for Towne employees are numerous, including twice-a-year teller recognition celebrations, flowers on Valentine’s Day, after-hours gatherings for operations staff and a “birthday holiday” for all.
Over its 19-year history, TowneBank has grown from 86 employees and three branches to more than 1,000 bank employees and 40 offices.
